Perge’s remains show a city with a long history and a clearly defined urban plan. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism says pottery found on the acropolis indicates that settlement at the site reaches back to the Early Bronze Age.

The ancient city is identified as “Parha” in Hittite written sources, according to the Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism. Systematic excavations began in 1946 under Ord. Prof. Dr. Arif Müfid Mansel.

Perge is 17 km east of Antalya city centre, in Aksu district. Its address is Barbaros Mahallesi, Perge Caddesi, Aksu, Antalya.

Two main streets, one running east–west and the other north–south, shape Perge’s principal urban layout. Along them, the site’s remains give a sense of the city’s public spaces and infrastructure.

The Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism names the Hellenistic towers, agora, monumental fountains, baths, water channel and colonnaded street among the notable remains. The stadium is described as one of Türkiye’s best-preserved ancient stadiums, with an approximate capacity of 12,000 spectators.

The ancient theatre has an approximate capacity of 13,000 spectators. Sculptures found during excavations at Perge are displayed at the Antalya Museum, a possible addition to an Antalya itinerary.
